Spatial Industry Technology Trends

This presentation will take a wide-ranging look at various technologies and trends that will impact the spatial industry over the next few years.

Topics to be covered will include:

· Developments in wireless communications and mobile devices, which will continue to have a major impact on IT in general and geospatial applications in particular

· Web services which, together with other Internet-related developments, will have a major impact on the way that geospatial projects are implemented and how data is maintained and shared.

· Location tracking technologies, both global and local, which are having a major impact on how data is collected and maintained, and enabling many new applications

· The growth in real time geospatial applications: increasingly geospatial technology is evolving from traditional application areas such as planning and documentation to more real time operational applications

· The impact of non-traditional vendors on the industry, such as Google, Microsoft and Yahoo, who are driving commoditization of certain aspects of geospatial technology
