Program

What dates and deadlines do I need to worry about?

  • February 17, 2006: Abstracts submissions due.
  • March 3, 2006: Notification of accepted speakers.
  • March 31, 2006: All speakers must register using the instructor registration form in the speaker toolkit, which will confirm your acceptance to present at GeoAlberta.

How are abstracts Evaluated?

Abstracts will be reviewed and approved or rejected by the GeoAlberta conference committee. The competition for workshops is strong, so a good abstract submission is important to help increase your chances of being chosen.

GeoAlberta judges both session and workshop submissions based on the following criteria:
  • Fit with conference - does it fit with the conference theme and address one the major tracks (see list of tracks below)?
  • Fit with audience- the presentation must be of interest to a significant number of expected conference attendees.
  • Quality - the abstracts will be reviewed for quality, originality and innovation

What's a workshop vs. a session?

Workshops are held on Day 1 of GeoAlberta. Workshops are an important component of the conference and they provide a forum for individuals to learn about today's technology. Some workshops are vendor-specific and others are more educational in nature. Delegates must pay $75 per half-day educational workshop while they canattend vendor workshops for free.

Sessions are educational in nature and are scheduled for 45 minute time slots (including discussion and Q&A) on Day 2 and 3 of GeoAlberta. Session content must be vendor-neutral and may not include a sales pitch for any specific product or service.

Please note: Presentations that market specific products and services will not be accepted as sessions. Case studies should be presented by the sponsoring organization, not by vendors.

More on vendor workshops...

The content of the vendor workshops may be set by the vendor and thus may include content for marketable products and/or services. Any vendor may host a vendor workshop and it can can be either a half-day or full-day of hands-on instructional presentation. While GeoAlberta attendees must register for all workshops, they are not charged any fee to attend a vendor workshop.

Vendor Workshop Fee: There is a charge to the vendor of $400 for each half-day workshop.

Do speakers get to attend the conference for free?

No. However, speakers wishing to attend GeoAlberta (beyond their own session or workshop) can purchase a full conference pass at a significantly reduced rate of $149+GST.

To Register: A special online registration form for speakers is available in the speakers' toolkit.

What about A/V & Equipment?

Audio Visual Equipment: The following standard equipment will be available in each room for both sessions and workshops:

  • One lapel microphone
  • One podium
  • One overhead screen
